SAB Offers Composite VFD Cable for $ Savings for Customer

VFD Cables have many different applications for the following types of Machine Automation:  Lifts, transfers, shuttles, storage/retrieval elevators, feeders, extractors or any application that requires position feedback and external braking.  Customer called our Distributor and described an application to control the velocity, acceleration and position of a device using a VFD with internal/external braking.

Amusement Park Specifies SAB’s Halogen Free Cable

SAB’s local Manufacturers’ Rep received a call from the Engineering Dept. of one of the Amusement parks in their area.  He qualified the customer in conversation about the application requiring Halogen Free Cables and quickly discovered this was a real application with capital expenditures approved and budgeted.  In face to face discussion the Salesman discovered the customer had 3 - 25 year old Monorail cars that required upgrading.  The Salesman sat down with Engineering and after reviewing their needs came up with 17 different cables for the applications including communication cable, car to car flexing cables, power and control cables, providing solutions for all their Halogen Free cabling requirements.

Halogen Free Cable is one of the fastest growing product segments in our catalog.  Please review Section J in our catalog for the Halogen Free products or request a separate Halogen Free Catalog for your sales calls.

Success Story: SAB North America’s Inventory keeps Robots working

Recently a large industrial plant with approximately 200 ABB robot cells was having trouble with the control cables breaking. This was as the cells were nearing a normal maintenance cycle and factory shutdown for MRO activities.

Cable requirements from customer were:

  • Needed to be abrasive resistant (PUR jacket).
  • Continuous Flexing to handle the continuous bending
  • Required fairly tight bending radius (7.5 x O.D.)
  • Cable needed to provide shielding protection.

Questions:

  1. Continuous Flex Cable provides the customer a cable that has been manufactured for use in a continuous bending application on a machine.  SAB’s S960 red (Page B6 of catalog) is a popular selling product line of this type of cable.  Please list 3 Construction or Technical Data facts, shown on catalog page B6, of the cable that would be important to the customer in determining if this is the correct cable for a Continuous Flex application.
  2. Catalog Page A1 is SAB’s CC600 product line that is a flexible control cable used in non-flexing applications.   When a customer orders one of these cables, the product is manufactured with black conductors with white numbering and 1 ground wire.  (Review Color Code under Construction)  True or False, if a customer orders a 02042012, they will receive 11 black wires and 1 green-yellow ground wire?
  3. SAB is well known for manufacturing multi-conductor cables, however we also sell single conductor wire.  In the Harmonized Cable section of the catalog, (Section G), we show on pages G1 & G2 hook-up wire.  How many different colors do we list a customer can purchase from these 2 pages?  (Hint if you answer only 1 Black, your answer will be incorrect)
  4. One of the advantages of Silicone Cable from SAB in (Section H) of catalog, is it remains flexible in both low temperature and high temperature applications.  Catalog Pages H1 thru H4 list a new high temperature rating from UL.  What is the new temperature rating for UL shown for the Silicone Cable?
  5. What is the temperature rating of SAB’s, Tray Rated, UV Resistant Cable found on Pages D3 to D13 of catalog?
